Habitat dedicates its first open-concept, energy-efficient home in Round Rock

Round Rock Ledger - 09/18/2009

Williamson County Habitat for Humanity dedicated its first newly designed residential floor plan in Round Rock last weekend to a family who will now be residing in the energy-efficient home located at 401 Spring St.

In January, Moman Architects was selected to redesign five residential floor plans for the nonprofit, which have become the foundation for Round Rock's first Habitat homes and others slated to be built throughout the county. The new homes are an open-concept plan, meaning every inch of space is utilized to make the homes feel larger and more comfortable. The majority of the materials used are energy-efficient and green, resulting in lower than average monthly utility bills.

The labor for this Habitat home was a unique collaborative effort on behalf of numerous local faith-based organizations including Round Rock Church of Christ and St. Philips Methodist Church, as well as hundreds of volunteers and supporters. They included the city of Round Rock, Hunter Douglas, Whirlpool and Valspar.

"Our team is honored to be a part of this special home dedication for such a deserving family," said John S. Moman, president of Moman Architects. "We look forward to a continued partnership with Habitat for Humanity as this is the first of several exciting projects to come."
